Press release 27 January 2013

For the seventh year running, White Guide proudly presents the White Guide Global Gastronomy Award. The distinction is given to a creative chef of international renown or other gastronomic personality, who is still active and who has become an example and inspiration within contemporary gastronomy. The award is presented in conjunction with Electrolux.

Award winner 2013: Gastón Acurio, Astrid y Gastón and La Mar, Lima, Peru

Jury’s motivation: “For having developed a rich and forward-looking local gastronomy – la Cocina Novoandina – which obtains traditional and new ingredients from the depths of the Pacific, the heights of the Andes, and the jungles of the Amazon, with a potential to solve many of our health and food provision issues, as well as for his great involvement in the catering training of  poor South American youngsters.”

Gastón Acurio will receive his award at the White Guide Gala, at the Grand Hotel in Stockholm, on 4 March 2013. He will also – just like Henderson, Redzepi, Passard and Chang before him – make a guest appearance in the kitchen of Mathias Dahlgren (separately presented shortly).

Acurio’s philosophy will also be presented at White Guide’s big trend seminar, on the morning of 4 March. On 3 March Acurio will lead a cooking session for specially invited journalists and Swedish culinary creatives, at Electrolux Grand Cuisine.
