Jord

The name, you wonder?  It means “earth”, which is ironic as this eatery is located rather high above ground, on the fifth floor, in the Kamppi shopping mall’s food court.  Jord is lauded restaurant Ask’s pedigree offspring, set in an elegant, airy space, clad in azure blue ceramic tiles, with sweeping views of the city and shiny, happy service.  

Start off with a slice of house-made sourdough bread; oven-fresh and low on salt, with a nutty, thick crust, it’s a perfect vehicle for Jord’s moreish butter and house-made herb salt. Continue with the sprightly, lightly dressed Waldorf salad served with a crunch of pleasantly earthy toasted walnuts. The fried Baltic herring with potato puré is also a winner, it comes with pickled red coleslaw that adds a lovely acidity to this classic dish. To round off your rustic-chic meal, order a dark roast espresso or a lighter roast filter coffee from Swedish roasters Johan & Nyström.
