
Meaty-o-mighty
A prime hang-out for hungry carnivores, in the heart of Porvoo’s Old Town. This laid-back, buzzy restaurant specializes in high quality, organic meat prepared on the grill. Meat District was made for extroverted double dates, family gatherings and larger groups of fun-loving friends or coworkers. Be warned, it can, at times, get a bit too busy for the waiters to keep up. Just chill out and feast your eyes on the wall-to-wall, refrigerated meat display where a selection of imported and locally sourced cuts are hung and aged to perfection.
The concept is straightforward; start with a few shared dishes and graduate to a main indulgence of grilled meat, priced by weight. The ever changing signature tartare is a must. In one recent version the lean, hand cut beef met black truffle mayo, puffed buckwheat, pickled mushrooms and mustard seeds. Servings are generous and rich in both fat and umami, thankfully, no-fuss, salted celery sticks are offered as a much-needed palate cleanser.
Bonus point: there is always a thoughtful, boldly flavored and smoky vegetarian menu option.
