Scenic location by the sea away from the downtown bustle
For almost a century, until 1988, the grand brick building that now houses the Elite Marina Tower was a flour mill. The listed façade and the imposing towers were kept, but the entire interior was torn out to make way for a modern hotel – albeit with the tiny original windows in most rooms. In other words, if daylight and views are important to you, go for the more expensive rooms with a view of the sea approach to Stockholm – or enjoy it from the lobby and the restaurant. Rooms are relatively big, well planned and comfortable, if a little nondescript. Staff are cordial and accommodating, which rubs off on the atmosphere throughout the hotel. Don’t miss Sturebadet’s beautiful spa in the basement, which includes hammam, pool, sauna, and gym, as well as countless treatments – a hedonist’s dream! The breakfast buffet offers no surprises, but should satisfy most tastes. Summertime breakfasts are best had outdoors on the quayside, with tourists from all corners of the globe; at other times of year the hotel can be totally dominated by conference groups.
