For youthful nomads
A fully loaded water pistol on the bathroom shelf, whose mood doesn’t that improve? Childish may not be the appropriate adjective, but Hobo is certainly youthful. ‘Finally you’re here!’ the dynamic notice board exclaims, and staff at reception (it doubles as a design shop) are 30-somethings who dish out the soul funk morning, noon and night. Yes, the guests are young too. And those who aren’t young in years will feel so in spirit after a night or two here, one would hope. Urban street sign typography guides you to your room, whose number glows like a taxi light in the corridor upstairs – which, by contrast, is thick-pile carpet quiet. So are the modern, cosily decorated and softly dimmed rooms, with small but great work spaces. Not a whisper can be heard from the neighbouring club-like bars, Tak and SUS. Nor from Hobo’s own bar, which also serves as lobby, work space, restaurant and breakfast room, in a rowdy and pretty crowded mix. There’s a washing machine and dryer in the basement. A gym with a punching bag and yoga mats. Recycling collection of used nylon stockings. Chia pudding for breakfast.
