The hotel as venue
Pelle Lydmar’s design hotel on Sturegatan, closed in 2006 to the chagrin of many, was reborn in 2008 on Blasieholmen. Just like its predecessor, it’s become a venue for artists and gallery owners, models and agents, fashion designers and musicians, PR and record company folk. Lydmar’s signature mark is that familiar, lived-in and laid-back atmosphere. There’s almost always some exhibition on here, often of a photo-documentary nature. Guests arriving at the hotel as well as the restaurant are made to feel as if they’ve just returned home after a few days away. Rooms are pleasant, with an intimate living-room feel to them and original photographs by Jesper Haynes in most. Breakfast in the well laid-out dining room isn’t wide on choice, but select. On the second floor, food is served on the terrace. Every floor has a large furnished hall for informal meetings, and the hotel’s many nooks and corridors have varied and tasteful seating arrangements. A gym and spa are available next door at Grand Hôtel, which took over the management of Lydmar a few years ago.
