Carefully transformed Art Nouveau in a downtown boutique hotel
The location is in the heart of downtown, near Hötorget and lively Sveavägen, Stockholm’s premier boulevard. Clara Strömberg was a popular and colourful headmistress of the girls’ school housed in these premises until 1939. Gert Wingårdh, the internationally renowned Swedish architect, applied considerable finesse and care to maintain much of the original character while creating a modern, sober, elegant and luxurious boutique hotel. Features such as dark-hued wood, leather and limestone can be found throughout. The dark herringbone parquet lends a severe character, as well as being very beautiful. The rooms have many clever solutions, including a pull-out bar and work station; the smallest rooms really require ingenious inventions like that. The glass shower wall also creates a sense of space, and each one features a memorable quote. The window bay has a cushion so you can perch comfortably there and look out across the city. Suites add a second room and a separate lounge seating set. The lobby is dominated by a long reception desk where the style-savvy young staff receive you. Breakfast is served in the restaurant and passes with distinction. There are excellent conference rooms and a terrace suitable for more than mere business.
