Modern and musical in Djurgården

You don’t have to love Abba to appreciate the Pop House Hotel – but it’ll help. The basement houses both the Abba Museum and the Swedish Music Hall of Fame, to which fans flock from around the world. The reception area can get a bit thronged, as hotel guests jostle for space with music lovers and Abba souvenir shoppers. (A tip: when leaving, choose the button with a disabled symbol in the lift for an optional exit). Once in your room, though, there’s more space, and peace and quiet too. The music theme runs though the décor as well: in some rooms you’re quite surrounded by the global success of the Swedish foursome, while in others they just smile more discreetly at you from photographs. Hard core fans book room 114, which has been turned into a Greek village after Mamma Mia, with vines in the ceiling and the whole shebang. But behind all the music curios is a well-conceived, comfortable and clever hotel interior. All rooms have panorama windows and most have a balcony of their own. Hand-built beds with lovely linen assure a good night’s sleep. The premises also include a tiny gym, which is considerate as it’s far to other gyms. The breakfast buffet is limited but well composed.
