The coolest rooms to stay in are of course those with floor-to-ceiling windows and a view of the square outside – and with a bedroom-integrated bathtub, perhaps? There are also rooms with their own balconies and, poshest of all, one with its own terrace at the top. Avalon is feng shui certified, meaning that special attention has been paid to the effects of energy fields. The restaurant is as full at breakfast (superb) as it is in the evenings, and the bar shakes a classy drink. From the outdoor tables across from the lively market hall, guests can enjoy looking up towards the rooftop pool/aquarium and catch occasional swimmers in all their glory. Hotel guests have access to the rooftop terrace, with a terrific view, from May to September.
