Gothenburg landmarks dot the surroundings: Poseidon, the Gothenburg Museum of Art, City Theatre, and Concert Hall. When Park was built it was one of the taller buildings in the city, on the Avenue, still the city’s most famous and stroll-friendly street. The lounge, restaurant and conference rooms have been given a makeover, with new colours and more stylish furnishings. Sprucely uniformed and impeccably professional staff receive you at the hugely long desk. Industry bigwigs, artists, tourists, conference goers and politicians from around the world have checked in and out here during more than half a century. In the long corridors of soft blue fitted carpets that absorb sounds, the feeling that time has stood still comes over you. Rooms are nowadays decorated in subdued beiges and browns. Do ask the staff if you can have a look at Evert Taube’s fabulous paintings in the ballroom. Breakfast is served amid wine storage facilities and an open kitchen. At lunch and dinner, restaurateur Stefan Karlsson lets his creativity flow in the restaurant, whose walls are covered in art. People are always coming and going at Park, whether it’s mid-week or the weekend.
