Unobtrusiveness taken to new heights
Guests are discreetly ushered from a desk on the teeming trade fair level to a glass lift that rises spectacularly on the outside of the middle Gothia tower. As one ascends to the 25th floor one is treated to an increasingly bird’s-eye view of Liseberg, whose many fairground attractions glitter below. On the 18th floor the famous pool flashes past, sticking out from the skyscraper and drawing swimmers unfazed by the vertiginous downward views. A second reception desk awaits on the same floor as the restaurant that also serves as breakfast room in the morning. Staff are exceedingly correct, but smiles and warmth seep through the uniformed barrier. The rooms are located between the top floor and the house spa, whose almost Asian sense of luxury is really one of the main attractions here. Rooms all offer the comfort you might require for sleep or work, but a bit more character wouldn’t hurt. Breakfast is served partly as a buffet and partly à la carte – and what the kitchen can come up with to order is impressive, not least the house blood pudding.
