The 25 floors of the Clarion Hotel & Congress Live rise confidently from Malmö’s building-boom district. It’s walking distance to most things in central Malmö, yet the new office-dominated area feels a bit isolated from the street life and variety of the central neighbourhoods. Clarion has not skimped on space – this is truly an international-format congress centre. The vast areas are also used to display works by a number of modern artists, for everyone to admire. 24 con-ference spaces and a congress hall are complemented by 444 spruce, good-value guest rooms whose decoration picks up the musical theme from the concert hall next door, with large black and white close-ups of saxophones and piano keys. Unless you suffer from vertigo you’ll want a room as high up as possible. And should you be unable to, all you have to do is take the lift up to the bar to get a great view of Malmö and Öresund. Breakfast is a dream, with everything from an omelette chef to do-it-yourself waffles. The buffet is enormous, and with the number of guests here, noise levels get pretty high. Marcus Samuelsson is behind the two in-house res-taurants, Kitchen & Table and Eatery Social Taqueria.
