Right-on bike hotel with a cosy vibe
It’s not often that ’the city’s most modern’ and the ’the city’s cosiest’ can be said about the same building, but Ohboy, whose ground floor has hotel rooms while the other floors have residential flats, actually lives up to both epithets. The building was completed in 2017, and sustainability and local materials are major considerations – as is a focus on minimising car use. When you book a room you are automatically asked if you want to borrow a bike, and when you check in (i e enter the building with a code) your very own bike is there waiting for you in the small patio outside the bright green hotel entrance. Despite a complete absence of staff, the entire process is very smooth, and should something go wrong there’s a number you can call. Because the hotel is in Västra Hamnen, car-borne guests can easily park their wheels in the neighbourhood – and then pedal into bike-friendly Malmö in a few minutes for dinner or meetings. The rooms are well-planned duplexes with a kitchenette, a small dining table and a work space at the top, with a comfy double bed and an extra bed cleverly placed beneath the stairs. If you want to fit in another person, hammocks – of course – are available.
