Take it easy in town
The lift speaks to you with a heavy Östgöta accent: ’Now we’re on the second floor, hölludulu’ – an immediate and welcome contrast with the lobby’s throne-like velvet settee and world-weary lounge vibe. It also reflect the refreshingly unaffected style of the staff. The hotel is run by the Magnentus property firm and takes up not just the entire block, but also a couple of buildings on the other side of the road, including one that used to belong to Norrköpings Tidningar. But the centrepiece is in the main building: the spa, inaugurated in the spring of 2018, can give most a run for their money with its tasteful interior of French sandstone (and everything that matches it in tone), several gyms and pools, a Turkish bath, ice shower, bar and more. In summer the restaurant drifts into the courtyard, which is enlivened by the dynamic architecture of the hotel’s exterior – a cross of sorts between a holiday camp and Karlsson-on-the-Roof. Locals like to come here as well. And once they’ve returned to their homes, you’ll sleep soundly in your cosily dimmed, fashionably drab room and awake, perhaps, to the soft chimes of the Olai church one block away. Meatballs, pancakes, kombucha and mineral supplements for breakfast.
