EXCEPTIONAL LEVEL

We like it at Anna’s

Look for the cathedral and you’ll soon spot her – Anna. Or her house, rather: nearly a century and a half old, surrounded by historic buildings, and arguably in its best state ever. The windows are invitingly lit, and as we climb the entrance steps we are bid ‘welcome home’. The hotel received a small upgrade in 2016, and now includes a genial piano bar that looks more like a living room – but with waiters serving cocktails, craft beer, wine and tasty nibbles. The interior is classically subdued, with calming colours. The last thing you expect when you check in is an iPad: ‘Here you go, with this you control everything in your room’. It takes a while to master the light and sound technology, but that’s about it in terms of nuisance factors in the pretty rooms. So pop your mobile phone on the charging station and select something from the ample and varied mini-bar. Then curl up on the sofa, slip into the bath or throw yourself on the fluffy bed. If your room is on the fourth floor you can also climb a ladder and perch in the window niche. The restaurant, with its spread of medium-sized dishes on a ‘Nordic from nature’ theme, is also worth a visit. And in the morning breakfast awaits with extra everything – don’t miss either kavelgris (freshly made flatbreads) or French toast on brioche.
