A timbered cottage on the fjeld
Have you ever dreamt of living in a cabin in the woods and forgetting about the hassles of everyday life? You’re in luck – here it is! The fjeld can be glimpsed behind the tree-tops, and the ski track begins on the other side of the road, so you just have to clip on your skis and go. But mind the low doorway as you leave the main house – it’s pretty much unchanged since about the 17th century, like most things here: high thresholds, small doors, stained timber walls and a roaring fire. The rooms are spread between several cottages around the main house, which contains the dining room and conference spaces, and have modern, comfortable furnishings. Most people come here mainly to be outdoors and eat well. There are fairly few socialising areas besides the dining room and your own. Luxuriously thick terry towels are treat after a deserved hot shower at the end of a day spent outdoors. Take a good book to bed and your pulse will soon be down to normal levels.
