Pretty much on the beach in the charming tennis town of Båstad is Hotel Skansen, housed partly in an old warehouse from 1877. History has set the tone of the decor, with solid materials such as stone, wood and iron. For a few intense tournament weeks in the summer, Skansen hosts tennis stars – and just about anyone can turn up at Sand, the restaurant that is a popular venue all year round, with reliably good food. During the rest of the year, guests are tourists, conference-goers, spa addicts and romantic couples. There’s everything you could wish for in the spa, gym and pool department – and don’t miss a visit to the open-air baths, with a sauna and dips in the sea. All of which you can walk to in your bathrobe. Båstad is a delightful town to explore, with a quality cinema, bookshop, more restaurants, and lovely walks along the Skåneleden trail and the beaches.
