And the bell you have to ring in order to be let in via an intercom doesn’t make things any worse. Down a flight of stairs is a cosy basement space where you’re quickly shown to a table where the knowledgeable staff take your order. The quality of the craftsmanship and drink ingredients is matched by the exciting drinks list. Each cocktail has its own balance of subtle flavours, as in the somewhat unknown classic, Jungle Bird, of dark rum, Campari, lime and pineapple. Come here once and you’re likely to keep returning until you’ve tried the whole list. If you want something to nibble on, go for the almonds. The clientele is mixed but tends to get younger as the evening progresses. By the small hours things can get pretty wild.
