Guldbaren

The leather armchair creaks precariously, and the service has been known to miss a beat. Guldbaren’s polish may have matted a little, but it’s still a small and terrifically attractive iteration of the international hotel bar, with leather, gold, stone, dim lighting and mirrors on the ceiling. The buzz of conversation in a place like this is of course polyglot; the clientele is elegant and often in town for work. At weekends they’re joined by visiting Swedes recuperating and rehydrating after shopping – though they appear to prefer the large, luminous atrium with modern furniture. The mixology is faultless. A fair amount of time and ambition is spent on preparing the drinks, be they perfectly rendered classics or house creations with a seasonal touch. They look good, too.
