Impressive selection in the basement
Putting your own name on your bar can be precarious. For Björn Persson, Gothenburg’s foremost wine and restaurant personality, it was hardly a fraught decision. On top of this rustic basement wine bar is his highly rated restaurant, Koka. Björns Bar succeeds in offering a wine selection that has both breadth and depth without snobbery. There’s always a current Coravin list and a list of ‘temporary visitors’ that cater to both the vin nature fan and the more classically inclined. Young and old are seated on high benches along the walls, overlooking the space. As one would expect from Persson, the array of snacks is large, and the choice of ‘Björn’s plates’ and entremets impressive. Cold counters display Koka’s selection of lovely hams and cheeses. Who can resist?
