A Classic Is Born
The owners of Moon were more or less scorned when they left their positions at Estonia’s leading fine dining restaurants to open a simple eatery in what was considered the middle of nowhere (A mere half kilometer from Tallinn’s old town). The widely predicted quick failure never happened, ten years later, this Moon is still shining bright. The humble eatery with light wood and dark blue wallpaper offers dishes that appear simple at first sight––until you get a whiff of them and understand that the apparent simplicity conceals a real wealth of flavors. By the time you leave you’ll know how much passion goes into their preparations. This is not Estonian passion. Moon serves modern Russian cuisine. Yet the passion is not quite Russian either. It’s a blended, Estonian-Russian love affair, strictly dictated by the work of Russian-bred chefs in Estonia. The newly discovered fascination with Russian temperament and customs is slowly influencing Nordic cuisine, it’s a source of inspiration to be reckoned with. Moon is its biggest promoter in Estonia, and as such, it’s becoming something of a classic. The borsch has been on the menu since Day 1, but it tastes new every single time. Always order a pie with any of their soups! Or opt for their chicken dishes, both the schnitzel and chicken à la Kiev are impossible to recreate. You can’t imitate the inimitable!
Moon just goes to show you that if you have a foolproof concept and you do things well, you can tell your adversaries to take a flying leap.
