An All-Day Affair
Nestled in a former ecclesiastical building is Rosenplänter, Pärnu’s newest boutique hotel and its chameleon-like eatery, Pastoraat. Chameleon-like, you ask? It morphs as the day goes on; in the morning it’s a breakfast paradise for guests and locals alike; in the afternoon the place turns into something best described as a cocktail lounge; and when the sun goes down, Pastoraat becomes a full-fledged restaurant. These three settings would be unremarkable if this was yet another one of those concept-free establishments that tries to be too many things at the same time. Pastoraat is outstanding. So go ahead and order a latte and one of those savory pastries that are the newest expression of Estonians’ infatuation with black bread; a rye bun with a meat- and mushroom filling, for instance. At cocktail hour, chez loungy-afternoon Pastoraat, you’d do well to get one of the sharp drinks, they’re expertly balanced and concocted with house-made ingredients. Or you could wait until the clock strikes evening for a bite from the short menu. While its ingredients might look familiar, the dishes will surprise you. Even simple grilled chicken shashlik proves that this chameleon blends in with the best restaurants in town.
