A Taste of Nature
Strolling though Kadriorg Park, one of Tallinn’s most beautiful spots, might be the best way to work up an appetite. The enchanted and verdant area is dotted with museums and historical landmarks of architectural note. There are several good restaurants here, but only one that manages to convey the parks many splendors on the plate; Mantel ja Korsten, or Mantel and Chimney. The tiny green wooden house, sheltered by several larger ones, might go unnoticed if you don’t know what you’re looking for. Lest you’re wondering about the strange name, it refers to the old-fashioned fireplace that dominates a large part of this minute house and verily adds to the ambiance that is further enhanced by the smooth, warm service. The waiters speak of the food with such insight and enthusiasm, it’s as if it they were presenting their own creations; a muscat pumpkin and lentil soup the color of late autumn leaves is fluffy like fresh snow and, slightly spicy. The flavors are clear and fresh and brightly tinted, like the greenery just beyond. The restaurant also has a private dining room, perfect for smaller parties looking for an extra cozy experience.
