New flavour-sure hole in the wall
This eatery is on Bangatan, hence the name. It has 20 seats, including those at the bar with a direct view into the kitchen, where imaginative cooking at a high gastro-level takes place. And yes, there are some crazy ideas too, like combining Swedish Falukorv sausage with oysters. The menu is short and changes often. Venison with celeriac, onion cream, chanterelles – and aubergine, which reveals itself to be an excellent match for the Swedish autumn flavours. A glass of Cante Renard, vin nature from the south of France, goes down a treat with it. This is followed by Grandma’s unclassical fish quenelles, and anyone who shudders at the memory of school meal fish quenelles really must give them a second chance here. They’re served with three types of cabbage, trout roe, coriander butter, a jus of mussels and oyster, and acidic wood sorrel leaves. Sip a sylvaner from Alsace with that, and all your grim school memories are gone. A well made crema catalana with orange makes a fine ending. Bang is furnished with rib-backed benches and wooden tables – plain and simple, with pictures of plants on the walls.
